Debbie Tyson is a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and has 8 years of nursing experience in the psychiatric field ranging from child, adult, and geriatric inpatient care to community mental health crisis stabilization and substance abuse treatment. She received her Associates of Science in Nursing at Northwest Shoals Community College and immediately started working as a psychiatric nurse in a geriatric inpatient hospital unit. She completed her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing at the University of North Alabama where she was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society. She achieved her Master’s of Science in Nursing at the University of South Alabama. While attending Graduate School through the University of South Alabama, she was a charge nurse in a geriatric inpatient facility and then a nurse at a behavioral health outpatient facility. While working as a nurse in the outpatient setting, she became familiar with prior authorization processes and was able to talk with clients daily about questions and concerns regarding mental health. She is enthusiastic to apply her experience and compassion with clients as they begin to address issues that will help them to improve their quality of life and attain a sense of fulfillment. Her primary focuses are providing honest communication to each patient and quality resources for all those involved. She has dedicated her career to lowering the stigma associated with mental illness, as well as trying to make a difference in each and every person’s life that she has the privilege of meeting and interacting with. She truly loves being a mental health provider and is so grateful in having a career that allows her to meet wonderful people, while lending her expertise in helping them reach their full potential in life. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and all that northwestern Alabama has to offer!
Debbie and Jessi’s focus is on the treatment of mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma, psychotic disorders, PTSD, dementia/Alzheimer’s, substance abuse and chronic mental illness through psychiatric assessment, medication management and brief psychotherapeutic intervention for adult clients ages 5-year-old and beyond. They believe in creating an individualized plan of care that values client involvement, interprofessional collaboration and evidenced-based practice. Their goal for their clients is to feel empowered to treat their illness through supportive education in a stigma free environment.A client can expect their initial visit to include a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, determination of treatment goals and education about diagnosis and available treatment options. Both providers have had the pleasure of working alongside many skilled and experienced clinicians and are happy to collaborate and coordinate care with them when appropriate to the clients’ needs.
